Elegant Urban Garden
DESCRIPTION
In the area of Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, the garden of a ground-floor maisonette is an oasis of relaxation in the city center. An outdoor space designed on three levels for rest and entertainment: a welcoming dining corner, a rich green area, and a discreet swimming pool, which is seamlessly integrated into the environment.
The natural elements, combined with the minimal dining area and strategically placed lighting, create a serene and charming atmosphere. In terms of plants, the balance between subdued grey-purple and vibrant green shades brings tranquility. Proof that even within city limits, small spaces can be transformed into natural refuges.

WHAT WAS REQUESTED
The family living in the maisonette wanted the garden to be a place of rest, but also a spot where they could enjoy outdoor activities with their child. A place where they could de-stress from everyday life, and also host friends on weekends. At the same time, they wanted to enhance the privacy of the space from neighboring balconies. Their main concern was to maintain the architectural style of the residence, with the garden being a natural extension of the maisonette.
THE GREEN SOLUTION
Our goal was to create a space that combines tranquility and entertainment. To meet the two basic needs of our clients, we utilized the existing tiered structures and divided the garden into two parts.
In the part with more sunlight, we installed a lawn, so that the couple’s child could enjoy playing in the sun. We redesigned the connecting staircase between the levels to create a spacious dining area, ready to host pleasant evenings with friends in the garden.
The peripheral planting was implemented to ensure the privacy of the maisonette. At the same time, we designed the vertical surfaces in such a way as to reduce the feeling of enclosure and strict boundaries, creating visual escapes in the sky.
To ensure that the garden harmonizes with the building’s aesthetics, we combined materials that communicate with its interior. By connecting the indoor and outdoor environments, the usable space increases for at least six months a year. The family lives within nature and with nature, while being on one of the busiest streets in the city.
