DESCRIPTION
The vertical garden located in the central atrium of the luxurious Macedonia Palace hotel in Thessaloniki, daily welcomes, impresses, inspires and calms. It is a meeting point, a landmark and a place of well-being for travelers, digital nomads, hotel employees, for those who enjoy their breakfast on the ground floor or are accommodated in sea-view rooms.
Ramina Ibragimova, Marketing Executive at Macedonia Palace, conveys the enthusiasm of visitors who behold a “real piece of nature” inside the hotel. An imposing composition that evokes a refined work of art, combining shades of green, with small white, purple, and blue touches. The existence of the vertical garden enhances the sense of care experienced by guests and creates a unique experience of green luxury. Its minimal design and cool ambiance complete the overall atmosphere of Macedonia Palace.

WHAT WAS REQUESTED
The integration of natural elements into the spaces of Macedonia Palace is a fundamental pillar for the hotel’s architecture and design. The goal was to enhance the sense of unity with nature and aesthetically upgrade the atrium with a natural addition that would exude luxury. Consequently, we were asked to construct a vertical garden that would impress visitors and contribute to their well-being and rejuvenation, creating a warm and welcoming environment.
THE GREEN SOLUTION
In order to give the space its green character, we first had to tame the great variety and alternation of bright and shaded surfaces due to the sun’s movement and the building’s geometry. After analyzing the sun’s path, we decided on the design of two inverted V’s, which constitute the two main areas for plant placement. In combination with the shadow diagram per hour of the day and per season and the overall environmental analysis, we decided which plant species would compose the impressive new background of the magnificent lobby.
Vita Verde’s innovative hydroponic vertical garden system ensured the permanently well-maintained appearance of the garden. Indeed, the vertical garden creates an atmosphere of authentic beauty, tranquility, and connection with nature. It offers visitors a welcoming and pleasant feeling every day, expressing the core values of Macedonia Palace.
